What we make
Northfield Joinery is a small workshop making joinery to measure: internal and external doors, sash and casement windows, staircases, and the occasional run of built-in cabinetry.
Most of what we make replaces something that was made well a century ago and then badly maintained for the last forty years. Where the original can be repaired, we say so before quoting for a replacement. A new sash is not always better than an old one with a fresh pair of cords and a properly fitted parting bead.
How a job runs
- Survey. We measure the opening ourselves. Drawings from a builder are welcome, but we cut to our own numbers.
- Drawing and timber. You get a dimensioned drawing and a named species before anything is cut: usually oak or sapele for external work, tulipwood or pine for painted interiors.
- Making. Mortise-and-tenon frames, glued and pinned, rather than dowelled corners. It takes longer and it is why the door is still square in twenty years.
- Fitting and finish. We fit what we make. If someone else is fitting, we supply it primed and tell you in writing what tolerances we left.
We give a fixed price after survey. If something hidden turns up once the old frame is out, we stop and talk before spending your money on it.
Workshop notes
Every few weeks we send a short email: a job from the bench, a joint or a finish worth explaining, and the odd mistake we learned from. It is meant for clients, architects and anyone who maintains an old house.
Every email carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and most mail clients show their own unsubscribe button too. One click is enough — no confirmation page, no “are you sure”.
We also write to builders, architects and suppliers we would like to work with. If you would rather not hear from us, say so in a reply and that is the end of it.
Contact
- Quotes and surveys
- Reply to any email you have had from us, or write to hello@ this domain with the rough size of the opening and a photo.
- Unsubscribe or data removal
- Use the unsubscribe link in any email we sent you, or just say so in a reply.
Privacy, briefly
- Your email address, if you asked for a quote, subscribed to the notes, or we wrote to you about a project.
- Whether a message was delivered, so we stop writing to addresses that bounce.
- Your unsubscribe, permanently — that record is what stops us mailing you again by accident, so it is the one thing we keep.
We do not sell or share address lists. This site sets no cookies, loads nothing from other domains and runs no analytics.
